Good morning, today the church celebrates epiphany. The church usually celebrates on January 6. We got oranges as gifts in my town as a child. The idea is always the gifts. But epiphany means manifestation. In the old Church, epiphany preceeded Christmas. The little brothers of Jesus lived in the Sahara to convert people. In the desert, you see the sky and can learn the stars. Growing up we did not have electricity. Besides being beautiful, the stars help guide. Traveling at night is best for heat. The magi were desert dwellers. About the magi time, there was a worldwide expectancy of a king. The view of a star signified the birth of a king. Jesus came to his own and those that accepted him were given the power to be God's children. The story of the magi is a story of hope. Jesus was sent in the darkness to save us. In the distance was a star shining. The star as with Jesus, without Jesus we are lost. Without the star we are doomed. The liturgy of the Christmas season ends today. What do you say to children? What do they know about the world, the stars shining in the darkness? Today Jesus is found in the hearts, stars guiding us in the darkness. Jesus used the sermon on the mount to tell people they are the light of the world. Epiphany tells us Christ is born. But it also tells us to be the light by living like Jesus did. Jesus was sent for the world to find a home. We have the rest of the Christmas season to be like him. We have to be faithful to the core to find Jesus. God bless you
