Pentecost is the beginning of the Church. The sequence helps us focus on the feast day. Pentecost is the coming of the holy spirit. If you are confirmed in this church, raise your hand. From baptism we became part of trinity, we should understand that the same God that created world came to Earth, we celebrate it at Christmas, showing how to live life. Christ dying was a showing of love. Today is last day of Easter, fifty days from Easter. He showed he is the way, he proved he is the light of the world. The number forty is often in Bible, the fortieth day of the birth of the sacraments. He promised he would send the holy spirit, which is today being the birth of church. Christ sent the disciples in the world with the spirit. For most of us, baptism was as children. Confirmation confirms entrance at baptism. We are cofirmed at an age to understand we are not alone. We carry with us the gifts of the spirit to put them into practice. The fruits of the Spirit are in the second reading. Joy is a fruit of the spirit, which is why we spread the message of the scripture. God has given to me as a blessing for me to give. The gift of self-control is not about me, knowing when to stop. Today, we ask how we use the gifts of the spirit. God has given the gift of wisdom to put into action the gifts. When the gifts were given to the disciples, they opened the door where they were hiding to spread the word: beginning of Church. God knows no boundaries. The gifts of the Spirit attract people. Let us pray for the answer of if we are a Christian in name or in deed, which is why we have the gifts of the Spirit.
