The good shepherd Sunday, Jesus teaches us about truth through the shepherd image: we are the sheep and sometimes shepherds. Sometimes the good shepherd has to be ahead of the people, sometimes behind to encourage, and sometimes ahead. Ahead of the flock is the leader knowing more than the sheep leading by example. For example, a father trying to teach a child not to vape when he smoked, we have to be an example. The good shepherd has to be in the flock sometimes so that people see the leader. For example, at a father and son retreat, asked favorite food, asked favorite pastime. My son plays video games would be answer by father. The revealed answer was playing with my dad, an example that applies to us: priest not knowing in his church, the good shepherd needs to be among flock. And finally the shepherd should follow flock, no one left behind. A good shepherd never abandons sheep.
