For whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister, and mother. The Catholic church went through a phase of exclusion. Christ is explaining that we are called to be; whoever does the will of God is one with God. The Old Testament teaches everyone outside of the covenant is excluded. Jesus came to teach how to live with purpose. His family was not understanding what he was doing. They thought he was out of his mind. Our God does not throw us out when we sin. Christ came for everybody. Anyone that does the will of God, as long as we obey what God does, what is God asking me to do? We spend our lives asking. Doing the will of God is to do what God asks us to do. Obedience has root in Latin to listen, the first reading shows us what not to do, Adam eating the fruit. Human beings want something to elevate us above everyone else, which is how Satan works. Focusing on yourself, forgetting God's plan leads to sin. Sin leads to alienation from God that leads to shame then leads to blame. You are too perfect, you do not want people to see your mistake or shame. We all sin, we are all messed up, we blame if we are not careful. Adam blames Eve, takes no responsibility, Eve blamed the serpent, blame can happen to us. Take responsibility, we are not perfect. We should say sorry, we should heal from mistakes, we ask for forgiveness for sins in act of contrition. When we read the prophets of the old testament, the same message is to come back to God. We have the act of confession sacrament to ask for forgiveness. We should take responsibility and ask for forgiveness. We are Christians because we follow Christ, how do we do that? Talk to God, listen to God through prayer every day. If you are into prayer books, God bless you but you need to understand how to connect to God. Pray to ask for forgiveness and follow in deed to be the best people we can be.
