We think incorrectly that the new testament is a biography of Jesus. It was a teaching tool. The apostles made sure lessons of parables were in the Bible. Mark tells us how Jesus taught originally and explained the parables to the apostles. He discusses the growth of the mustard seed. Something might trigger growth. The gospel is written for us to believe. Are we the ground or the seed? Are we to become a great institution of God? We are called to be saints, simply listen and respond to God, all it takes is a listening ear and heart. The silence in church allows us to listen and understand allowing us to make the leap faith involves.
